Vision boards have become a pretty hot topic. So many people make them now and for good reason. Having a visual of what you want for you life really helps to keep you on the track to acheive it. When seeing your goals laid out in front of you, it help to keep you focused and drives you to want to do the things to get there. Also keeps your vision clear. Life gets busy and its easy to forget what your working towards. Having a vision board keeps these big goals front of mind. In short a vision board is a toll to use to help you to manifest your dreams into reality.
Creating a vision board has become something I look forward to every year. For some, maybe they create one more frequently, but I feel doing it annually is perfect! I've made it a tradition that on New Year's Eve, I sit down and spend some alone time creating mine. I use mine as the background on my laptop, and I have it hanging beside my bed so that it's the first thing I see when I wake up and the last thing I see when I lay down at night. Seeing these things is my daily and constant reminder that I am working to have this amazing life that I have envisioned for myself and to become the person who fits that life. Seeing this when I get up gives me motivation, and before bed, I can look at it and think of my day and what I did that day to further me toward these things. We create our own lives; whether we like our circumstances or not, we attracted the life we live, and to live the life you want, you have to fit that life. It makes me think of a line from the Disney movie 'Noelle.' Nick is gifted the Santa hat, and Santa tells him it will fit him when he fits it. Spoiler alert—in the end, Noelle winds up as the new Santa because it's her who grew to fit the role, and this becomes her life. Now, I am aware this is a Disney Christmas movie, but the lesson is there. You have to grow to become the person worthy of living the life of your dreams, and once you fit that life, it will be yours. This is something I am working on daily, and my vision board is there as a tool so I don't lose sight of that.
How to Make Your Vision Board
Plan it out. - Start by writing out your hopes, dreams, and goals for the year. I like to categorize mine partly because of my OCD, but also because this helps me to create the layout for the board and know what kind of images I'm searching for. Once you're clear on what you would like to achieve and where you want to be at the end of the year (or whatever time frame you give yourself for this board), you can start to hunt for images.
Find your images. - Now you get to choose how you want to do this. For some, they like to go out and look through magazines and find images they love. For me, though, I use Pinterest mostly to find images of the things I am working towards. You can save these images and even edit them using tools like Canva. Then you can choose to either print them out or, if you're going to create it digitally, you save them to your phone or laptop. This brings me to my next point.
Choose how you want to create your board. - You have options here. You can choose to buy a pinboard and pin your images using tacks (I have done it this way before, although I decided it wasn't for me anymore as I love my new way). You can choose to go grab a poster board at the dollar store and cut and glue your images to it. My personal favorite, and the way I've been doing it for the past couple of years now, is to create mine on Canva. I have all my images saved to my computer, and I choose the blank landscape poster option and create a collage by cropping and dragging my images until they all fit and look the way I want them to, and then I have it printed and shipped from Canva. They make it look so nice, and I am actually obsessed with it.
Plan your layout. I like to use the left side of my board for health, fitness, and wellness. The top right is for family, the bottom right is for career goals, and space in the upper and lower portions of the middle is for finances and other areas. In the middle of the board, I put a graphic for the year, and spread throughout are words that resonate with me. Now, my board may be a little chaotic for some, but for me, this is how my mind works, and I love it! I'll post an example of my board below.
Now that your board is created,
You can choose where you want to put yours. Maybe you spend a lot of time in your office and want it above your computer, or maybe you're like me and want it next to your bed. Use it as your phone background and the background of your laptop. Just make sure you are seeing it often. Feel grateful when you look at it and really think about who gets to have the things you're working toward. Align yourself with your vision and watch it come to life.
